L.R. Baggs T-Bridge Gold — Piezo Tune-O-Matic Bridge

The T-Bridge brings the L.R. Baggs acoustic voice into an electric guitar without asking the player to carry a second instrument. Each of its six saddles contains a miniature high-output pickup, so the bridge senses the strings where they actually terminate. The six signals can be combined into one mono output through the supplied summing board, or taken out individually for hexaphonic use — one signal per string, which is what guitar synthesis and per-string processing need.

One Guitar, Two Voices

Mixed with the guitar's magnetic pickups, the T-Bridge gives one instrument the clean, acoustic-flavoured tone of a piezo bridge alongside the familiar electric sound — blues, rock, jazz clean and an acoustic-style voice from the same body. The L.R. Baggs Ctrl-X onboard preamp and mixer is built for exactly this job: it amplifies the passive piezo signal and blends it continuously with the magnetic pickups, with a three-way switch for piezo only, blend, or magnetics only.

Fitting

The bridge follows the physical dimensions and post spacing of a standard tune-o-matic, so on a guitar already set up for one it drops in without serious modification. What it does need is roughly 0.120" to 0.200" of clearance below the bottom surface of the bridge for the wiring, and a 5/16" hole drilled from beneath the bridge into the electronics cavity. The summing board must be shielded during installation to eliminate hum — insulating tape over the hot connections, then copper shielding tape soldered to the ground pad. Professional installation is required.
