Rainbow, also known as Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, was a British rock band formed in 1975 by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore after leaving Deep Purple. The group initially included members of the American band Elf, featuring vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Over the years, Rainbow became known for constant line-up changes, with Blackmore as the sole enduring member. The band's early albums blended hard rock and heavy metal with mystical lyrics, highlighted in records like Rising and Long Live Rock 'n' Roll. After Dio departed in 1979, Rainbow shifted toward a more radio-friendly sound, achieving major success with hits like "Since You Been Gone." Notable members during this era included Cozy Powell, Graham Bonnet, Don Airey, Roger Glover, and later Joe Lynn Turner. Rainbow disbanded in 1984 when Blackmore rejoined Deep Purple, but returned in the 1990s with singer Doogie White for the album Stranger in Us All. Another revival in 2015 featured Blackmore's wife Candice Night, Ronnie Romero, and others, performing live until 2019. Recognized as one of hard rock's greats, Rainbow sold over 28 million records worldwide and left a lasting mark with their powerful musicianship and dynamic sound.
