Soundcraft EPM 12
The Soundcraft EPM12 is a 12+2 channel analog mixer for live sound, project studios, houses of worship and small touring rigs. Built around Soundcraft's GB30 microphone preamp, it offers clean 55 dB of gain, repeatable settings, and a -126.5 dBu noise floor. Twelve mono mic inputs with global +48V phantom power, two aux buses, TRS insert points per channel, and 60 mm faders cover a working engineer's core routing needs in a 6.7 kg chassis.
- Microphone inputs: 12 mono channels with global +48V phantom power — full drum kits, miced choirs, or multi-instrument bands in one frame.
- Channel EQ with parametric (swept) mids sweeping from 150 Hz to 3.5 kHz — naturally target vocal and snare problem frequencies.
- Two independently configurable aux buses, switchable pre- or post-fader, for monitor mixes and a dedicated effect send at once.
- Ten-segment LED output metering with a multipoint PEAK indicator that brightens progressively as signals approach clipping.
Soundcraft EPM12 — Analog Mixer for Live Sound
The Soundcraft EPM12 is a 12+2 channel analog mixer built for live sound, houses of worship, project studios and small touring rigs. Transparent signal handling and repeatable gain control shape the unit's signal chain for applications where these qualities matter most. Inside sits the GB30 microphone preamp, designed by Graham Blyth for Soundcraft's 30th anniversary and shared with the LX7ii and GB Series. Two aux buses plus inserts on every mono channel cover a working engineer's core routing needs.
Standout Features
The GB30 mic preamp delivers 55 dB of clean gain range and +22 dBu of headroom. Using multipoint take-offs, the PEAK LED brightens progressively as the signal approaches clipping rather than switching on at a fixed threshold.
Input Architecture and Channel Count
A generous input count lets engineers patch full bands without surrendering channels to effects returns.
- Microphone Inputs: 12 mono mic inputs with global +48V phantom power — covers full drum kits, miced choirs and multi-instrument bands in one frame.
- Stereo channel returns — host effects returns and keyboard sub-mixes without eating into the mono count.
- RCA phono playback in/out with 2-track to-mix routing — for backing tracks, intermission music, or feeding a separate recorder.
Preamps, EQ and Signal Quality
The signal path is what separates this desk from entry-level mixers at this tier.
- Microphone Channel EQ: 3 bands with parametric (swept) mids on mono inputs — sweeping 150 Hz–3.5 kHz to target vocal and snare problem frequencies.
- Microphone Preamp: GB30 with 55 dB gain range and +22 dBu headroom — clean gain for ribbon and condenser microphones without obvious coloration.
- Long fades stay clean: 0.02% THD at 1 kHz with a -126.5 dBu noise floor across all twelve channels.
Mix Controls and Output Infrastructure
Sixty-millimetre faders and a ten-segment output meter keep control surfaces honest during loud shows.
- Channel Faders: 60 mm faders with PFL/solo per channel — consistent feel with larger Soundcraft consoles.
- Output Metering: Ten-segment LED with multipoint PEAK LED — brightens progressively as the signal approaches clipping.
- TRS inserts on every mono channel and main mix bus — route compressors and graphics before the master fader without repatching.
Who the EPM12 Is For
The EPM12 is the right choice for working engineers, worship techs and small-venue operators who prefer a straight analog workflow without menus. Solo performers and cover bands running 8–12 source live rigs get all their mic pres, returns and aux sends in a single compact desk. Houses of worship, community theatres and school productions benefit from the simple layout, dedicated stereo returns, and global +48V phantom power. Project studios treating the unit as a tactile summing stage get the multiple TRS insert points for hardware processing before the master fader.
Brand & Product Story — Soundcraft and the GB30 Preamp
Soundcraft was founded in 1973 in Borehamwood, England, and built its reputation on professional live consoles. The EPM series introduced the GB30 mic preamp, designed by Graham Blyth for Soundcraft's 30th anniversary in 2003. The same preamp design later appeared on the LX7ii and GB Series consoles, so this small-format desk carries preamp DNA normally found in mixers costing several times more.
