Witchfinder General was an English heavy metal band from Stourbridge closely associated with the new wave of British heavy metal. Drawing inspiration from the darker sounds of early Black Sabbath, their music is often described as raw and gritty, laying the groundwork for the doom metal genre. Named after a 1968 horror film, Witchfinder General became a key influence on later doom metal bands, despite remaining somewhat underground during their active years.
