311 is an American rock band from Omaha, Nebraska, formed in 1988 by Nick Hexum, Jim Watson, Aaron "P-Nut" Wills, and Chad Sexton. Tim Mahoney replaced Watson in 1990, and Doug "SA" Martinez joined two years later as a second vocalist and turntablist. Known for their energetic blend of rock, reggae, and funk, 311 gained major success with their 1995 self-titled album featuring the hits "Down" and "All Mixed Up." Over their career, the band has released fourteen studio albums, including the latest, Full Bloom, in 2024. With more than ten million records sold in the United States, 311 remains a staple in the alternative rock scene. The band's name comes from an Omaha police code for indecent exposure, a nod to an early incident involving a friend of the group.
