Blondie is an American rock band formed in New York City in 1974 by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. As pioneers of the new wave movement, the band initially blended punk influences with elements of disco, pop, reggae, and early hip hop. After gaining early success in the UK and Australia, Blondie broke through in the United States with their third album, Parallel Lines, in 1978. They are known for a series of iconic hits including Heart of Glass, Call Me, The Tide Is High, and Rapture. The band originally split in 1982 but reunited in 1997, achieving renewed popularity with the hit single Maria in 1999. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, Blondie has sold over 40 million records worldwide and continues to record and perform.
