First introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird is one of the most distinctive and well-loved acoustic guitars ever made. Handcrafted with care in Bozeman, Montana, by Gibson’s expert acoustic luthiers, the new Gibson Hummingbird Special offers players a USA-built Gibson Hummingbird model at a very attractive price.

Superior Tonewoods & Construction

The Hummingbird Special features a traditional square-shouldered body, constructed using genuine solid mahogany for the back and sides and a solid Sitka spruce top reinforced with Gibson’s traditional scalloped X-bracing. This combination of tonewoods delivers a warm, balanced tone with an excellent dynamic range, making it perfect for any style of music.

The “concert depth” body is slightly thinner than the standard Hummingbird model, providing a leaner and tighter bass response that sits perfectly in the mix while also making it easier to hold.

Premium Neck & Fretboard

The utile neck is attached to the body with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint and, like all Gibson acoustic guitars, is affixed with hot hide glue. The neck has a comfortable Round profile, and the rosewood fretboard has a 12” radius and features pearloid parallelogram inlays—one of the defining visual hallmarks that makes the Hummingbird instantly recognizable. The fretboard is fitted with 20 standard frets.

Hardware & Electronics

• The traditional belly-up rosewood bridge is equipped with a TUSQ saddle, with the nut and bridge pins also made from TUSQ.
• High-quality Grover Rotomatic tuners ensure rock-solid tuning stability.
• The pickguard features a simplified version of the world-famous Hummingbird pickguard graphics.

Electronics

It comes equipped with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze under-saddle piezo pickup and active preamp with an easily accessible soundhole-mounted volume control, making it stage and studio-ready right out of the included premium soft shell case.
