The Pharcyde is an influential hip hop group from South Central Los Angeles, formed in 1991 by Imani, Slimkid3, Bootie Brown, and Fatlip. Known for their playful style and unique sound, they made their mark with the critically acclaimed debut album Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde in 1992, featuring the classic single Passin' Me By. Their follow-up album, Labcabincalifornia, included the hits Drop and Runnin' and has become a staple in alternative hip hop. After Fatlip’s departure, the group continued with various lineup changes and released albums such as Plain Rap and Humboldt Beginnings. Despite never regaining their initial commercial success, they maintained a loyal following through ongoing tours, collaborations, and occasional reunions. In recent years, the original members have reunited for performances and recorded new material, including the 2022 single My Bad and the EP Timeless, released in 2025. The Pharcyde remains celebrated for their innovative approach and lasting impact on hip hop culture.
