It combines three instruments into one, thanks to its innovative interchangeable drum heads, known as íons, located on the side walls. This design allows percussionists to easily switch between distinct percussion sounds, adapting to various musical styles.

The cajon comes standard with two íons: the Cuban íon and the Turkish íon. The Cuban íon is handcrafted from 100% natural goatskin, drawing inspiration from Afro-Cuban percussion. Each goatskin is unique in thickness and color, providing a distinct tonal character. For enhanced flexibility and durability, it is recommended to treat the skin with vegetable fat, allowing the sound to be tailored to individual playing styles. The goatskin delivers warm, resonant tones, ideal for traditional and contemporary Latin rhythms.

The Turkish íon features a synthetic skin, available in blue or green, designed to withstand moisture and varying climatic conditions. Its lightweight construction ensures high responsiveness, while its thin profile contributes to a strong sound projection with pronounced mids and bright highs. This íon is particularly suited for the ‘Turkish playing technique’, which involves specific strokes and techniques to produce authentic Turkish percussion sounds.

In addition to the standard íons, three optional variants are available: the Guinean íon, the Kenyan íon, and the Peruvian íon.
